BARRY  WAR  MUSEUM

Friends and colleagues of the Barry at War Group announce with heavy hearts the passing of esteemed member Mr Ian Phillips of Dinas Powys at Holm Towers Hospice in Penarth, on 5th September 2021.

Ian had been involved with the Barry War Museum since its beginning in 2012.

In recent years he was our committee secretary and was (pre-Covid) busy liaising with local schools to arrange visits to the museum at Barry Island Station.

Pre-Lockdown in January 2020 he gave a superb presentation at the Station on US Army headgear through the Twentieth Century...

Furthermore, Ian was not averse to dressing up as a WW2 air raid warden....and demonstrating the use of the WW2 air raid siren.

Ian brought a great deal of knowledge, expertise and enthusiasm to the Group and to the Museum.

He will be missed more than words can tell. Our thoughts are very much with Ian's widow, Sian, and his family.

We will post details of the funeral service as and when.
