JESSIE

FROM CARNIVAL HORSE TO WAR HORSE
Follow the photographic history of Jessie, our War Horse.  Jessie began her life as one of several horses on the Westonzoyland Carnival Club float ' Ghostriders' which took part in the 2019 historic annual Bridgwater Carnival procession

Once carnival season was over Jacqueline, one of our volunteers, contacted Westonzoyland Carnival Club to enquire if we could buy one of the horses for our museum.  Jacqueline has had the idea for quite a few years to install a war horse jumping over our trench.  To Jacqueline's delight, the Westonzoyland Carnival Club let us have one of the horses for free.

Steve, another volunteer at the museum, and Jacqueline then took on a road trip to Somerset pick up the horse, whom we affectionately called Jessie.

Over the following weeks Jessie was worked on with chicken wire, fibreglass, copious amount of paint until she ended up as the war horse you can see in our museum.

For those worried (especially our younger visitors) about the fate of Jessie, we are pleased to let you all know that she survived WW1 and lived out her life happily with her friends in a small holding in Wales.
